Peace Elewonu, Ghanaian percussionist, singer, dancer and performing artist

Peace Elewonu   is an internationally renowned dancer, performing artist, and teacher. She has traveled and performed on every continent with the National Dance Theatre of Ghana. Peace received the "Best Traditional Dancer in Ghana" Award in 1994.  She currently teaches traditional Dance and sings Songs of Ghana in workshops throughout the United States, as well as, her own contemporary African dance choreography.


Peace's workshops at the "Happen'ns" include :

WOMEN'S MUSIC of GHANA:   Traditional songs and music in many regions of Ghana are performed exclusively by women on gourds and calabashes.  In this workshop, you will learn the unique styles of women's vocal and percussion music of the Ashanti people.  Traditional instruments will be demonstrated and shared.  All levels are welcome.



DANCE OF GHANA:   This workshop will introduce you to KPATSA, a dance from the Ga Adagbe region of Ghana.  Kpatsa is an initiation dance to prepare girl children for adulthood.  Bring drums and bells to learn the Kpatsa rhythm.
